New Practice for Laboratory Simulation of Industrial Laundering of Flame Resistant and Arc Rated Clothing
1. Scope
This Standard provides procedures for replicating Industrial Laundry in a laboratory setting. This Standard intends to expose potential issues with durability of flame resistance properties of FR clothing after treatment with industrial laundry practices.

Rationale
Laboratory procedures for laundering clothing in home laundering have been developed, maintained and used by AATCC for years . For example, AATCC 135. Some years ago a laboratory method for industrial laundering was also developed by AATCC, 7M96(, but this method fell into disuse because of a lack of interest and a multiplicity of procedures used in the real world by industrial launderers. Recently ( in the last few years) procedures for personal protective equipment and clothing, such as NFPA 2112 have been developed that describe a laboratory wash procedure for certification of the durability of the flame resistance characteristics. The published procedure was drawn from a somewhat archaic source of a military wash procedure and with regard to some details is seriously out of date.
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
