Revision of E84-19b Standard Test Method for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials

Rationale

The intent of this project is to add UL2846 to the scope of E84 for fire/smoke testing of pressure plastic pipes tested as pairs up to 4 nominal. This project follows the successful completion of WK57299 (M. Schmeida) which moved referenced standards utilizing the E84 furnace and instrumentation from the Appendix X5 (Specific Test Methods and Application Standards) into the scope of E84 -20. The intent of this movement of the testing standards referenced to the body of the standard from the appendix was to provide guidance to users and code officials as to specific test methods. The test methods moved, were differentiated from E84 in that they utilize the E84 apparatus to evaluate flame travel and smoke density of specific products as manufactured under their own separate test protocols as opposed to E-84. The original WK number for this project was WK66232. For administrative reasons a new work number, WK70200 was assigned to the project with technical contact Gary Morgan. Following the 1st ballot on this project on 3/14/20, Gary Morgan, the original technical contact, requested the project be transferred to Joseph Zicherman (Berkeley Engineering and Research, Inc) as the new technical contact. Zicherman continues as technical contact.
