New Practice for sample preparation of cannabis and hemp inflorescence for analysis.

1. Scope

A standardized process for sample preparation is proposed for cannabis and hemp inflorescence. The approach will depend on the proportionality of the sample where sub-sampling is typically performed for preparation of the sample to test. Many factors can influence the final particle size of the milled material including: environmental conditions/temperature, moisture content, volume of the material and types of grinding, milling apparatus used.

Keywords

sample preparation, homogenization, grinding, milling, sampling, cryogenics

Rationale

All analyses start with some form of sample preparation and homogenization of a proportionate sample. Many approaches exist between mechanical grinding, ball mills (wet and dry grinding) and cryogenic grinding of the sample for testing purposes. In addition many different devices and equipment can be used with the resulting sample consistency varying based on the approach taken.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
